Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. | Important Concepts | Quiz| Students watch a short YouTube video, PBS LEARNING MEDIA | Martin Luther King Jr. Day | PBS KIDS (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WNnu2cj3-pU), and then respond to information about his mission, accomplishments, and the impact of his work on society. HOW TO PLAY After watching the video, with a partner or small group, students discuss the concepts presented in the video, following questions in the quiz. After discussing each question, the students select an answer or answer. CURRICULUM STANDARDS CCSS.ELA-LITERACY SL: Engage effectively in a range of collaborative discussions (one-on-one, in groups, and teacher-led) with diverse partners on grade-level topics and text, building on other's ideas and expressing their own clearly. TEKS High School US History: USH.26C USH.26C Explain how the contributions of people of various racial, ethnic, gender, and religious groups shape American culture. USH.29H Use appropriate skills to analyze and interpret social studies information such as maps, graphs, presentations, speeches, lectures, and political cartoons. LESSON OBJECTIVE Students will explicitly draw on information gathered through watching a video about Martin Luther King and engage in related learning activities to discuss his life, the importance of his work, and his impact on society. Teachers can provide the students a rubric to structure the group discussion.
