Martin Luther King Jr. | Important Words | Scramble Students watch a short YouTube video, PBS LEARNING MEDIA | Martin Luther King Jr. Day | PBS KIDS (, and then respond to information about his mission, accomplishments, and the impact of his work on society. The students also discuss how they would like to volunteer in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. day. HOW TO PLAY After watching the video, with a partner or small group, students discuss the concepts presented in the video, following the words word list in the lesson. After discussing each word, they students hunt for it in the word-search grid. CURRICULUM STANDARDS ELA CC5SL1 Engage effectively in a range of collaborative discussions (one-on-one, in groups, and teacher-led) with diverse partners on grade-level topics and text, building on other's ideas and expressing their own clearly. ELA CCRR7 Integrate and evaluate content presented in diverse formats and media, including visually and quantitatively, as well as in words. LESSON OBJECTIVES Students will explicitly draw on information gathered through watching a video about Martin Luther King and engage in related learning activities to discuss his life, the importance of his work, and his impact on society. (Teachers can provide the students a rubric to structure the group discussion.)
